Week 3 in theONE6

This week has been a mixture of good times and a few frustrating times!

At last we got to discuss LearningMYway. This will be an ongoing discussion with lots to learn about for some. Here is our thinking BEFORE we had talked much about it...

We then got together and a few kids contributed to our collective brainstorm as to what they knew or had read about LearningMYway. Here are their thoughts...

After we had shared and discussed we re-did our sticky note to show our improved thinking!

Our thinking and understanding about LearningMYway will be ongoing throughout this Term when hopefully many students will have the skills to be ready to Learn their way!

We also managed to get back on the Chromebooks for an afternoon and complete some work in Google Classroom. We learnt how to 'submit' some work for commenting.

We had a great game of 'forceback' in PE on Tuesday... a game that needs to be played FAST to keep people moving and focussed!!

We filled out a survey on 'Homework' using Google Forms.

We had an 'interesting' afternoon on Wednesday participating in a collaborative problem-solving activity...build the tallest tower using 30 sticks of spaghetti and 13 marshmallows! Mmmmmm it was a terrific exercise in 'perseverance' which is one of our core virtues. Most of the whanau in theONE6 did very well...our buddy class might have some work to do when it comes to persevering!!

These girls above were the winners of the challenge...a brilliant structure with a strong base and they all worked co-operatively together! And they enjoyed their chocolate prize!!

Week 2 in theONE6

Okay... so another 3 days has flown by in 'theONE6'. Once again we managed to get through a bit of learning in these three days.

We continued our discussion around our school Mission Statement and came up with these ideas about what a supportive environment 'looks like' and 'sounds like'.

We discussed PB4L (Positive Behaviour for Learning) and did some sharing around Tamatea Intermediate's 6 Core Virtues... Respect, Responsibility, Perseverance, Unity, Integrity, and Aroha. We then collected some data about the 'most important' virtue in a parent, a friend, and a teacher. This revealed some interesting results. Here are some 'virtues' which the learners in 'theONE6' came up with.

We had a session on brainstorming what we know about Twitter. Learners discussed similarities with other social media such as 'likes' being favourites, 'replies', 'following', and Twitter jargon such as a 'retweet', 'handles', 'hashtags'. We learnt A LOT of new things before we had a practice at drafting a tweet... using a given hashtag, their name, and message in 140 characters. Some of 'theONE6ers' even got to tweet their first tweet today!

his week we also signed into Google Classroom where we can find messages, tasks, and assignments. We got back into Drive and learnt how to create a Google Doc. in a folder.

We had our standard 'korero' sessions each morning which gives kids an opportunity to share something about themselves and their whanau.

We had heaps of laughs and funny moments...
After I set my 'mood calendar' to CRAZY I was told by Connor that it means "depraved of normalness". I was happy with that!!

Thanks 'ONE6ers' for making my 3 days full of fun, frustration, and frivolity!

Welcome to theONE6

So a new school year is upon us!

Welcome to all of you in theONE6 for 2015. This is our class blog where you will each have an individual blog to share your learning and reflections and anything else you would like our global community to read!

Your posts are always 'submitted for approval' before they appear on your blog as are any replies or comments you are making on other classmates blog posts. This is one way to ensure our blog does not have anything inappropriate and silly on it. You will be taught the correct way to structure a blog reply/comment so you should always practice this. When you reply/comment correctly you will attract visitors to your blog and from this you form connections.

Your first individual blog challenge is to select a theme for your blog and complete an 'introduction' about yourself so your readers get to know you.

Later you can investigate how to insert an image, add tags, and keep posts in folders for good management.

We look forward to reading what you share and hope you enjoy creating an individual blog of your learning and reflections. Make sure you share your blog with your family and encourage them to reply/comment (you can teach them the correct way!).
